Dear Julie,
We will be experiencing some changes in 2007. Time To
Redesign was born in September of 2002 and it has been an
exciting 4-1/2 years. I'm sad to say that my business
partner, April Smith, will be leaving the business and
taking on a new venture. Her new company, As You Like It
Vacation Properties, Inc. will be offering "turn-key"
vacation homes in North Carolina, as well as mountain lots.
April's talents will continue to be showcased in the
decorating of these vacation homes.
I am happy to say that April will continue to assist me
with the bigger jobs. Of course, I wish her the best of luck
in this new venture. Since we are cousins by marriage, our
lives will continue to be intertwined.
I will be teaching decorating and staging classes at MCC
(Manatee Community College) during the spring session. My
BIG goal for 2007 is to begin teaching Redesign & Staging to
those who wish to start their own One Day Decorating
business. Watch my upcoming newsletters and website for
updates.
I will continue to offer all my other services. Check out
the website for a detailed description of my services and
fees.

DEAR DECORATOR |
 |
|
Dear Decorator: I don't know what my
decorating style is. How can I figure out my style
before I start my next decorating project?
Answer: There are many tools on the internet
to help with this dilemma. You can take a Style Quiz
and by answering a few simple questions, find out
what style you are drawn to. Your home may not be
decorated in this style or you may have only 1 room
in this style. But once you know your style, you
will understand why you are drawn to certain colors
or items. About.com has several links to different
quizzes (link below) This is a fun way to zero in
your YOUR style!
Another way to see what style you like is to flip
through various decorating magazines, tearing out
any rooms you really like... don't even think about
it, but just pull them out. When you have about 20
photos, lay them all out. Do you see a common
element? The colors may all be similar. You may have
chosen the same style of furniture (country,
traditional, modern) more than once. It should be
fairly obvious what your style is. Browse the book
store for decorating books that feature different
styles. One of today's most common styles is
ECLECTIC.. so don't be surprised if you fall into
this category. Basically, anything goes!

RECIPE OF THE MONTH |
 |
|
I am NOT a baker, but this is one recipe I will
make. These BROWNIES are wonderful! I'm lucky
to have a "GREAT" friend who makes these throughout
the year for me & my family.
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup oil
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Sift together flower, baking powder & salt. In
another bowl, beat eggs well; add sugar gradually.
Mix in oil, chocolate and vanilla. Add the flour
mixture all at once. Mix well. Stir in nuts.
Grease a 7" x 11" pan with oil. Bake for 25
minutes at 350. Cool for 5 mnutes before cutting.
NOTE: You can use self rising flour and omit the
baking powder and salt. You can also find liquid "unsweet"
chocolate; use 2 packages.

GET ORGANIZED IN 2007
|
|
|
|
It's a new year, which means a time of new
beginnings. There is something about putting away
all the decorations from the holidays that always
makes me want to get organized. Whether it's in my
home, office, life or just in general, getting
organized is a great way to start off the new year.
I always get such feeling of accomplishment when
I "purge" last years files to make room for what's
to come. I like to get my junk drawer in order. My
closets always need extra attention. After storing
away the holiday decorations, the garage always
seems to be calling out for some additional
organization.
Have you made your new years resolution, or
goals, as some people call them? Make a list of your
goals and come up with a plan to ensure their
success. If getting organized is on your list, visit
your local book store for books on organization and
your local Home Improvement store for the items to
help in the process. You CAN get organized and
reduce some stress in your life. There are even
professional organizers to help with the really BIG
jobs.
Take it slow and do one project at a time. It's
amazing just how great you will feel, even if all
you do is clean out the junk drawer! Happy New Year
AND Happy Organizing!! |
