Welcome

Spring 2004 brings exciting changes to TIME TO REDESIGN. We have opened a new location on Florida's West Coast. April Smith, co-owner of TIME TO REDESIGN, has relocated to Bradenton, Florida. She will be offering redesign and decorating services in Manatee, Sarasota & Hillsborough Counties.

We recently attended the I.R.I.S. (Interior Redesign Industry Specialists) national convention, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Interior Redesigners from across the country came together to learn the latest interior redesign trends. Conference theme "THE ROOTS OF REDESIGN" revealed how redesign was started. Key Note speaker, Carole Talbott, author of VISUAL COORDINATIONS, shared her expertise in the redesign field. Other speakers shared their knowledge of professional organizing, current color trends, as well as redesign trends in the real estate market. We are ready to share the newest trends and our love of interior redesign with you.

    QUESTION:

My family room is too dark. How can I add some light without having to hire an electrician and spend a lot of money?

    ANSWER:

Helping a room to feel "less dark" doesn't always mean adding expensive sources of lighting. If you don't have a good source of natural lighting such as a large picture window, there are many ways to bring more light into your room. Mood lighting is very inexpensive. Try adding candles, uplights, and small accent lamps in all the dark corners. Don't forget the ceiling. How about a torchere' to cast some light in an upward direction. Lamps are available in every price range, so it's not necessary to spend a fortune on a table lamp. Don't forget to change out that dark furniture throw to something lighter, such as a cream color. Consider switching out your dark area rug to something lighter in color and weight. A light colored slip color can also help to brighten up a room. Of course, if your really inspired, you can always paint the walls a lighter color, which will help reflect the existing light around the room. Creating a specific mood in your home is best accomplished by your lighting. So look around and make a few simple changes. Your mood will be brightened for sure.

    APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS...
    .
There is nothing that says "Springtime" more than beautiful flowers. Whether you have a green thumb or not, you CAN have a spring garden of flowers to brighten your home. There are many excellent books available that will guide you through the selection, planting, and caring of your flower garden.

Rebecca Cole, author of the new book, Flower Power was recently in Jacksonville, Florida. Julie & April met Rebecca at a taping of a local morning television show.

Rebecca is a co-host on The Discovery Channel's hit show, Surprise by Design. Besides her love of decorating, she also has a passion for flowers and landscaping. A three time author, her gardening books are a wonderful tool to help you get started on your Spring flower garden. Cole Creates, Rebecca's Manhattan based company, was created out of her love for gardening.

The outside world is in a process of renewal. The trees are full of fresh green growth and flowers are beginning to bloom everywhere. Bright colors and fragrances fill the air. Why should the indoors be any different?

This is the perfect time to freshen up your interior decor as well. Here are some quick solutions to help brighten up that dark Winter decor.

  • Remove those dark draperies and area rugs
  • Bring in light, airy window treatments

  • Purchase a natural material rug, such as sisal

  • Place fresh greenery in a beautiful vase

  • De-clutter for a more open, airy feeling

  • Throw away outdated magazines and newspapers

  • Store away holiday decorations

  • Add a few decorator pillows with spring fabrics

  • Replace your dark colored throw with a light colored one

  • Add fresh flowers, scented candles or popourri for a wonderful fragrance
