DECORATING BOOKSHELVES

 

When decorating DON’T Ignore those bookshelves!

 

Bookshelves create a special decorating dilemma. Take a look at your bookshelf.  What do you see?  You will probably find many different items besides books.  How about family photos?  Maybe you have some collectible figurines.  And don’t forget that antique plate your grandmother gave you.  Whatever you find in your bookshelf, books are only a part of this decorating process.

 

Here are some easy rules to use when accessorizing your bookshelves:

 

1.  Start from the bottom & work your way up.

 

2.  If you start high on the left, reverse it on the next shelf starting high on the right

 

3.  Remove the dust jackets from books. (this will add some color)

 

4.  Turn books on their sides with a photo frame on top

 

5.  Every shelf doesn’t need books;  let your eye rest in the middle with a nice green plant

 

6.  Add items you might not expect to find on a bookshelf like decorative boxes or small toys

 

These are just a few ways you can spruce up your bookshelves. Go ahead, empty them out remember to HAVE FUN with all your decorating endeavors.
